Cinderford Regeneration

Cinderford Regeneration logoThe Forest of Dean District Council is leading on the regeneration of Cinderford and is working in partnership with Gloucestershire County Council, the Forestry Commission and the Homes & Communities Agency.  To date, this partnership approach enabled the formation of the Cinderford Regeneration Board, the appointment of a Cinderford Regeneration Manager and Cinderford Regeneration Officer, the completion of a Business Plan and Community Learning Plan and several quick-win projects for the town.

In March 2009, the Homes & Communities Agency confirmed that it had received Government approval to proceed with an investment of £14.75 million, from the National Coalfield Programme, to assist in the regeneration of Cinderford.

The Coalfield Programme has now closed but its original remit was to assist former coalfield communities across England by creating new employment, homes, leisure facilities and public space. The funding approval, from the Homes & Communities Agency combined with other regional and local resources offers a unique opportunity to regenerate Cinderford and its surrounding area.

Work is now underway to prepare a new Cinderford Area Action Plan which will follow earlier research and consultation work within the community to help prepare the District Council's Local Plan, “Digging Deep” the East Dean Initiative's local strategy and the Cinderford Regeneration Board's Business Plan.

Progress is being made to complete the Area Action Plan, so that as the current economic climate improves we will be ready to guide new investment into the former coal mining sites to the north west of the town.  It is currently envisaged that the final Area Action Plan will be published in October 2010 and will be available for public comment over a six week period before submission to Government Office South West.

Please see details of our current community consultation programme.
